Visitor Information Page

Sunshine warmly welcomes visitors! We are particularly pleased to welcome our child sponsors, donors, and those who belong to churches, schools and organisations that support our work. Please read the guidelines below if you're considering a visit.

How?

Visitors should contact us first via e-mail or phone to make arrangements. The safety of our children is paramount and so all visitors must sign and return by email our Visitor's Child Protection Policy (PDF) prior to the visit. The centre is not easy to locate on the tourist maps, so we can arrange for a tuk-tuk to collect visitors from their hotel or guesthouse, at their cost, once the visit is confirmed.

Please note that all visitors must be approved by the Sunshine Cambodia staff.

When?

Children's clubs run from 8.00am - 10.45am and again from 1.30pm - 4.15pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays during school terms. August through September are the long summer holidays when special holiday programs can be run.

Do What?

Visitors may observe the clubs in action, or they may want to take a class or two for an English, art or music lesson, or run organised games and activities. It may also be possible to run a "camp" in your particular field of expertise (for eg. English, dance, sports).

What to Bring?

Visitors often want to bring presents for the children. However, these days all kinds of toiletries, clothes, stationery, English books, sports equipment and simple games are readily available in Phnom Penh (often cheaper than in the visitor's home country). Although people love to donate such things, making the purchases in Phnom Penh means less luggage to bring and it's far better for the local economy too. Sunshine staff are happy to assist you with local shopping advice.

What to Wear?

Please dress modestly and be respectful to the Khmer culture. This means clothes that go below the knee, for both men and women. In particular, women should not wear spaghetti straps or revealing tops. We recommend wearing shoes that are easy to slip on and off.

Another way to support Sunshine Cambodia is with a monetary gift. For inspiration, please contact us for a copy of our annual budget - there are many different costs involved with running Sunshine (eg. cleaning supplies, office equipment, monitoring and evaluation, night guards etc). Assistance with these costs is very much appreciated.

Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you!
